Wednesdays haven’t been the same in town since June, and it certainly is making a lot of people happy! To discover this new source of euphoria, stop by the Avoca Farmers Market to find out what all of the buzz is about.

Open from noon to 6 p.m. every Wednesday until mid-November on the grounds of 822 McAlpine St., the Avoca Farmers Market is a great place to purchase fresh food, drinks and crafts offered by local vendors.

The vendor list is always evolving and growing, too. It includes Igourmet Foods, Peculiar Culinary Company, The Renegade Winery, OHF Orchards, Beta Bread Bakery, Thirteen Olives, Rowlands Pennsylvania Produce, J & A Farms, Canned Classics, Purple Pepper Farms, Tortilleria El Buen Amigo, Backwoods Brittle Company, Marie’s (Brennan) Creations, Annie’s (Corcoran) Soaps, The Good Hive, The Sweet Lush Cupcake Camper, Wild Pennsylvania Beef Jerky & Cheese Shop, Maaa’s Handmade Goat Milk Soap, Deep Roots Hard Cider, Young Living Essential Oils, BeyondBread, LuLaRoe Jessica Mbaye, TnT Paparazzi Boutique, The Blakery, The Grounds Café, synergy crystal amulets, Silly Willy Ice Cream, Murray’s Coffee Shack, Jubilee Balloons and Rynkiewicz Dips and Mixes.

There also are a number of local artists and crafters on hand selling handmade soaps, jewelry and paintings.

Scouting opportunities

Boy Scout Troop 316 is accepting new members. The troop meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Queen of the Apostles Parish hall, 742 Spring St. The troop participates in various types of fun activities.

Queen of the Apostles Parish announces the following meetings: 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 7, pastoral council meeting, rectory; 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, parish hall committee, parish hall; 6:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, worship committee, rectory, and 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 21, word committee, rectory.

VFW Auxiliary meeting

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8335 Auxiliary will have its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at the post home, 915 Main St. June Fitzgerald, auxiliary president, will preside. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.

DePrimo Golf Tournament

The ninth annual 1st. Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Memorial Golf Tournament will take place Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Wilkes-Barre Golf Club.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with a captain and crew tee off at 8 a.m.

Cost is $75 per golfer, which includes green fees, use of a cart, dinner and awards. Register early at deprimogolf.com to ensure proper shirt size.

All proceeds will benefit the 1st. Lt. Jeffrey DePrimo Memorial Fund of the Luzerne Foundation.

Little League news

Avoca/Dupont Little League will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the Avoca Municipal Building, 950 Main St.

The agenda includes the beginning of fall ball and field improvements.

Anyone wishing to coach or volunteer for the fall season, as well as anyone generally interested in the league, is welcome to attend.

VFW barbecue

Avoca Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8335 will host its annual chicken barbecue dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the post home. 915 Main St.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance from any post member or at the post home. Tickets also will be available at the door.

Takeouts will be available, too.

PA, Class of ’67, reunion

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the basement of the Queen of the Apostles Parish rectory, 715 Hawthorne St.
