plans Doo Wop bus trip

United Methodist Church of Pittston will sponsor a Doo Wop Bus Trip on Saturday, Sept. 9, to the American Music Theater in Lancaster. Bus leaves the Pittston Plaza at 10 a.m. promptly. Cost of the trip is $115 and includes bus seat, ticket to show, dinner at the famous Shady Maple Smorgasbord after the show, and driver tip.

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church

plans 26th annual chicken barbecue

Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 1422 Mt. Zion Road, Harding, will host its 26th annual chicken barbecue Saturday, July 22. Takeouts will start at 4 p.m. and sit down service will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $9.50 for adults; $6.50 for kids.

First Baptist plans Vacation Bible School

First Baptist Church, Water Street, Pittston, will hold its annual Vacation Bible School the week of Aug. 7-11 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This year’s theme is Cave Quest. The public is welcome. For Information, call 570-654-0283 or visit the church on Facebook.

St. Michael’s Byzantine Church will host

21st annual flea market and ziti dinner

St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St., Pittston, is having its 21st annual flea market and ziti dinner Saturday, Aug. 5, and Sunday, Aug. 6.

Flea market hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The ziti dinner will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Takeouts are available. The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults and $6 for children.

There also will be a bake sale, ethnic foods, lunch items and refreshments.

Wyoming U.M. Church plans pork barbecue

Wyoming United Methodist Church, 376 Wyoming Ave., will hold a pork barbecue dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5. The dinner will be dine-in picnic style or take-out, with drive through available. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 12 years. Tickets will be available at the door. St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran

Church announces activities

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7 Wood St., Pittston, announced the following activities:

Water Fun Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2. Rain date is Wednesday, Aug. 9. Water Fun Night will feature a number of games, all involving water. All ages are invited. Bring a friend and a towel.

Congregation meeting will be held Sunday, Aug. 6, before the service.

Planning will meet after service Sundays, Aug. 6 and Aug. 20.

Council will meet Sunday, Aug. 16, after the service.

The church will hold a community picnic from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9.

The church will celebrate its 160th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 12, with a dinner at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company. The celebration will include a service of Thanksgiving and a dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. More details will be announced. Sharleen Palaima is planning committee chairwoman.

Outside of council meetings, all events are open to the public.

The church is renting out its lower level for $100 for three hours and $35 for each additional hour, plus $100 returnable security deposit. The hall can accommodate a maximum of 50 people. Email the church to receive photos of the space.

The church has gift cards available for a variety of locations and in a variety of denominations. See Mary Ann Denman or Alan Drummond after the service.

The church has off-street parking, with handicap parking next to the building. There also is an enclosed chair lift.

Queen of the Apostles Parish plans pig roast

Queen of the Apostles Parish will hold its sixth annual all-you-can-eat pig roast from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23, on the grounds of the parish hall in the former St. Mary’s School, Hawthorne and Spring streets, Avoca. The event will take place under a tent and in the parish hall.

Takeout dinners will be available all day.

The menu includes roasted pig on the spit, wimpies, hot dogs, corn on the cob, salads, desserts, soda and water. There also will be a cash prize grand raffle, basket raffles, children’s games and a bake sale.

Prince of Peace Parish plans chicken

barbecue and basket raffle fundraiser

Prince of Peace Parish in Old Forge will sponsor a chicken barbecue and basket raffle from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, in the parking lot of Arcaro and Genell Restaurant, Main Street, Old Forge.

The barbecue chicken dinner is take out with some limited outside seating. The dinner will be prepared by Arcaro and Genell.

Tickets are $10 and include half a barbecue chicken, pasta salad, corn on the cob, a roll and dessert.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling the rectory at 570-457-5900 by Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Walk-ins are limited.
