Children’s firearms
safety program set
The Firearms Institute of Specialized Training and West Wyoming Borough Police Department will host a free children’s firearms safety and familiarization course at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 16.
The free two-hour, hands-on interactive presentation, which is open to children age 4 and older and their parents or guardians, will be held at the FIST training facility on the Galli’s Fighting Chance School of Self Defense campus, 54 Tunkhannock Ave., Exeter.
“The reality is that the presence of a firearm in a home with children significantly increases the potential for accidental and unintentional discharges,” FIST owner and lead instructor Len Galli, West Wyoming Police Chief Curt Nocera and West Wyoming Mayor Joseph T. Herbert explained in a statement announcing the co-sponsored course. “Our intent is to use this innovative course to educate children about the dangers of inappropriate firearms handling and ensure they know what to do if they encounter a firearm without immediate adult supervision.”
Class size is limited and pre-registration is required to reserve seating in the free class. Parents and guardians can register themselves and their children by contacting FIST at 570-655-2915.
