Open house planned

at Coxton dig site

The Frances Dorrance Chapter of the Society of Pennsylvania Archeologists will have an open house at the Conrail Archeological Site off Coxton Road from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6.

The site dates back to 8,000 BC and there are historic structures found dating back to 1750-1760.

The society will be demonstrating how they conduct their research and have artifacts discovered at the site on display. People can participate in their research during the open house.

Refreshments will be served.

Farmers market

will highlight city’s

emergency vehicles

From 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Pittston Farmers Market, children will have the opportunity to tour the fire trucks at the main headquarters on Spring Street, adjacent to the upper lot of the market. The Pittston Ambulance also will be on hand to explore. Handouts will be provided.

Mary Baker will provide instruments and singing for the children from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jubilee Balloons also will be at the farmer market.

Plenty of fruits and vegetables will be available. The farmer market also has a new vendor, Beyond Bread, providing fresh desserts, pure vanilla extract and seasoning mixes.

The farmers market is held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday until Thanksgiving.

Bust trip to NYC’s

San Cataldo fest set

The San Cataldo Society of Pittston is sponsoring its annual bus trip to the San Gennaro Festival in New York City’s Little Italy on Saturday, Sept. 23. Seats cost $40.

Mount Zion Fire sets

Mount Zion Volunteer Fire Department, 1394 Mount Zion Road, Harding, will hold a chicken barbecue from noon to 5 p.m.

SEPT 12TH. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. The dinner is eat in or take out.
