Cosmopolitan Seniors

schedule meeting

Members of the Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in St. Anthony’s Parish Center, Exeter. Host and hostesses are Irene Kovaleski, John Kovaleski, Rose Gunsior and Lucy Pogcescki.

After the previous meeting, refreshments were served and bingo was played. Winners of the 50/50 were Edmund Czachor, Toni Hall, Irene Parini,Cheryl Pipher and Ann Marie Shedlock. Rosalie Ferrara won the special game and cover-all bingo winner was George Mislan.

The next trip to Sands Casino is Thursday, Oct. 19. Call Johanna at 570-655-2720 for information. You do not have to be a club member to go on the trips.

Club membership is open to all men and women age 50 and over. Members do not have to be a resident of Exeter and the club welcomes men and women of all races and religious affiliation. Meetings are normally held the first and third Tuesday of each month and include refreshments and bingo. Several trips also are planned. Interested parties are invited to attend a meeting.

1968, will meet

Pittston Area, Class of 1968, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, at Tony’s Pizza, 1117 Main St., Pittston, to discuss the upcoming 50th class reunion.

All classmates are invited.

Car show set at

Wesley Village

United Methodist Homes will host its 20th annual car show and fair from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Wesley Village Campus, 209 Roberts Road, Jenkins Twp.

The car show is an open class event. Car registration is 9 a.m. to noon. Registration fee is $10. A parking donation is asked as the entrance fee.

Market will feature

live music performance

Pittston Farmers Market is held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday until Thanksgiving. Bill Lipski will provide music Sept. 12 and 19. Canning tomatoes are available, along with plenty of fruits and vegetables, including hydroponically grown greens, fresh eggs, locally made popcorn and fudge, scented soap made from goats milk, homemade chili and salsa, cider, handmade purses, toddler dresses, table scarfs (special orders welcomed). There also is a wide variety of apples and pears available

Senior farmers market

vouchers available

The Area Agency on Aging of Luzerne/Wyoming Counties reminds seniors that senior farmers market vouchers are still available for eligible seniors who have not yet received their vouchers this program year. The last day vouchers can be distributed is Friday, Sept. 29.

Those receiving vouchers must be at least 60 years old or turn 60 before Dec. 31, 2017. They also must reside in Luzerne or Wyoming counties and must meet the 2017 Household Total Income Requirements. The income requirement is decided by the number of people residing in household: one person, $22,311; two people, $30,044. ID showing birth date and address is required.

Anyone residing in a residential facility, nursing home or convent where meals are provided does not qualify for the program.

Only 1 set of vouchers valued at $20 per eligible senior per year is allowed. Husband and wife may each receive a set of vouchers if they meet the requirements.

San Gennaro fest set

The San Cataldo Society of Pittston is sponsoring its annual bus trip to the San Gennaro Festival in New York City’s Little Italy on Saturday, Sept. 23. Seats cost $40. For information, contact Grace Scarantino at 570-655-9377.

Sky Zone event

will benefit Ronald

McDonald House

Sky Zone Trampoline Park will host a benefit for Ronald McDonald House in Danville. The event, Fly for a Cause Day, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17. For every jump ticket sold with event flyer, Sky Zone Pittston will donate a portion of the proceeds to Ronald McDonald House in Danville.

Everyone who attends also will have a chance to spin the prize wheel to win prizes and giveaways. The event also will feature a DJ.

The Ronald McDonald House, Danville provides a “home-away-from-home” for families of children who are hospitalized or receiving outpatient care at area hospitals.

Sky Zone Pittston

collecting items for Salvation Army

Sky Zone Pittston will be collecting used clothing and household goods on behalfof The Salvation Army from Oct. 3 to 27. Donors will receive a discount ticket for the day the donation is made.

The Salvation Army will be collecting the following items in well-tied garbage bags: used clothing of all kinds, shoes, purses and belts, as well as bed and bath linens. Boxes of household items such as dishes, pots, pans, vases, decorative knick-knacks, jewelry and glassware also will be accepted.

Pittston Library

plans book sale, foodie fundraiser

Pittston Memorial Library announced the following special events:

A Taste of Greater Pittston will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, in the community room of the library. Tickets are $30 per person and includes samples of food, dessert, wine and beer from local restaurants, caterers, food trucks, wineries and breweries.

All proceeds benefit the Pittston Memorial Library. Tickets are avaliable at the Pittston Library.

Friends of the Pittston Library will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, and Saturday Sept. 23.
