The Brickhouse on Main Street, Dupont will host a benefit to help the families that were severely impacted by the tornado in February. The event originally was scheduled for this weekend, but because of the snow, has been postponed until Saturday, April 1. The family-friendly event begins at noon.

Weather’s impact

The winter storm canceled many events and meetings, including the monthly Dupont Council meeting. Borough council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21. The Public Works Department’s recycling schedule also was affected by the storm. The department is now back on schedule for this week.

Centennial news

Tickets for Dupont Centennial Dinner, to be held Saturday, March 25, can be purchased at the municipal office during regular business hours or from any centennial committee member. Cost per person is $35.

Dupont Centennial Committee has started a new publishing project: “A Taste of Dupont” Centennial Cookbook, and they need your help. The group is still accepting your favorite family recipes. Pass on your treasured recipes for future generations to enjoy. Drop off your recipe at the borough office or email your recipe to: Deadline to submit your recipes is June 1.

VFW news

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will hold its next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, at the post home. Many items and issues will be discussed and reports given. Commander Mark Roney will preside.

The Home Association meeting will follow.

Food and refreshments will be served after both meetings.

Crime Watch news

The officers of the Dupont Neighborhood Dupont Crime Watch invite all to come and join the watch. Not only do they offer informational agendas, meetings also include guest speakers from law enforcement, district attorney and magistrates.

Come and meet the newly elected officers: President Bob Price, Vice President Jesse Hindmarsh, Secretary Ellen Price and Treasurer Bill Lukasik. Everyone is welcome to join the Crime Watch. Dues are $1 per year. Memberships are available at any meeting or by contacting any of the officers.

Field and playground

clean up

The Dupont Youth Baseball Organization and the Dupont Lions Club will clean the Little League field and playground Saturday, March 25.

The cleanup will start at 8 a.m. and tasks include raking leaves, trimming trees and shrubs, repairing the fence/net in right field, fixing the light tower in left field and overall field clean up and trash removal for the entire property.

Volunteers are always welcome to help. Contact Lion Mark Kowalczyk or any member of the Dupont Youth Baseball Organization if you or your group can lend a helping hand.

Holy Mother of Sorrow Lenten food sale

Holy Mother of Sorrows will sponsor a Lenten potato pancake and clam chowder dinner Friday, March 31. Serving will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Takeouts are available from 1 p.m.

Donation is $8.

Menu includes pancakes, soup, dessert and beverage.

Blood drive

Dupont Veterans of Foreign War Post, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will conduct a blood drive at the post home from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 21.

Independence reunion

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909’s Dick White announces the USS Independence CVA-62 28th reunion.

The reunion will be held in Buffalo, New York from Aug. 23-27. All Navy, Marine and Air Squadrons personnel who served in the Independence and their families are welcome.

Northeast High School, Class of 1956 birthday bash

Save the Date: Northeast High School, Class of 1965, will hold a 70th Birthday Bash at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Colaursso’s in Avoca.

All classmates are invited. No reservations are needed.

Lions food distribution

Dupont Lions Club will hold its monthly food distribution from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Hall. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.

The Dupont Lions have welcomed two new members to the club - William Preslock Jr. and James Brislin.

New members are always welcome. If interested in becoming a Lion, contact any member of the club or Chris Kalmanowicz, membership chairman.

Vendor/craft fair

A vendor/craft fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at the Pittston Area High School cafeteria.

More than 40 vendors will be present at the event to benefit the 2017 Pittston Area Senior Class All Night Party. Vendors include LuLaRoe, Scentsy, Avon, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Damsels in Defense and many more. Basket raffle chances and refreshments will be available for purchase.

There is no admission fee for this event.
