The April meeting of the Dupont Neighborhood Crime Watch will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Dupont Borough Building. 

Following a brief business meeting, the group will be touring the Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance Medic 29 Headquarters in Pittston to learn about the organization’s service to our area, meet the personnel and see their equipment. Crime Watch meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. Residents are encouraged to attend and bring their neighbors and friends to help keep Dupont safe.

Borough news

Dupont Borough is seeking a CDL driver and workers for the summer months. Applications are available at the municipal office during regular business hours. For information on available positions, call the borough office at 570-655-6216.

Dupont Public Works Department announces that yard waste will be added to the weekly schedule. Next week’s recycling schedule is Monday, refuse; Tuesday, yard waste; and Wednesday, recyclables.

Lidy’s Road and Walnut Street in the area of the water main project is scheduled to be paved within the next two weeks. As soon as the dates are confirmed the information will be passed on to residents and the upper gates will be open to allow traffic in and out.

Opening day

Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold opening day at noon Saturday, April 14, at the Little League Field at 700 Mill St., Avoca. All players and coaches should arrive by 11:30 a.m. The league will hold its hit-a-thon fundraiser during the event.

Electronics collection

Dupont Borough will hold an electronics recycling from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Dupont Municipal Building.

Items that can be recycled free of charge are desktop and laptop computers, keyboards and mice, printers and fax machines, cables/cords, cell phones and telephones, laptop batteries and UPS battery backups, calculators and adding machines, toner and ink cartridges, audio visual equipment, DVD and VCR players, gaming systems, string Christmas lights, microwaves and small appliances, metal items, small exercise equipment, car batteries (sealed lead acid), bed frames, rain spouting and filing cabinets.

Additional items that can be recycled for a fee include: washers and dryers, $20; dishwashers, $20; CRT monitors, $15 (tube type) ; LCD monitors, $10; televisions under 40 inches, $35; TVs in wooden cabinets, projection and over 40 inches, $55; air conditioners, $25; dehumidifiers, $25; refrigerators, $30; ranges/stoves, $20; floor copiers, $20; console stereos, in cabinet, $35.

Lions Club news

Dupont Lions Club’s next monthly food distributions will be held at Holy Mother of Sorrows Church hall because of renovations at Sacred Heart Church. Food distributions are from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays, April 26, and May 24. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.

The successful Hometown Hero Banners Project, sponsored by the Dupont Lions, will add an additional 42 banners this year. The group aims to have them up for Memorial Day.

The project for this year is now closed.

The Dupont Lions welcome seven new members: Camryn Lokuta, Fred Lokuta, Fred Lokuta Jr., Fred Lokuta Jr., Karen Wruble and Daniel Hyzenski.

Mark your calendars: The Dupont Lions will sponsor their first 5K Walk/Run on Sept. 1. Plans include an adult and kid run/walk. Starting lineup will be on Elm Street adjacent the Little League Community Park.

The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. All members are urged to attend. There are 500 prizes for next year’s Easter egg hunt that need to be sorted and stored.

Sacred Heart news

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will hold a flea market Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6, in the church hall. Collection of items has begun. Gently used items in good condition can be dropped off in the church hall. The church hall will be open for drop off from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays; 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sundays. Last day to drop off items will be Wednesday, May 3.

Items accepted include household items, kitchen items, toys, holiday decorations, books, jewelry and furniture. Electronics and clothing will not be accepted.

All proceeds benefit the parish building fund.

Sacred Heart will remove the old pews Monday, May 21, to make way for interior renovations. Perhaps you would like the pew where you and your family have sat for decades. If interested, please contact Kathy at the parish office during regular business hours as soon as possible at 570-64-3713. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to noon Fridays. You can make a request for a specific pew or even a number of pews, on a first come, first served basis. Pews will be available and must be picked up Monday, May 21.

Tax reminder

Joy Adelstein, tax collector, reminds residents the office will be closed April 16 to April 30, and June 12 to July 22. Mail will be processed during office closure.

Residents who are unable to pay their taxes at the municipal building can mail payment to: Joy Tetlak-Adelstein, tax collector, Dupont Municipal Building, 600 Chestnut St., Dupont, PA 18641.

To obtain a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope and the entire bill with your payment. The taxpayer copy of the bill will be returned to you. If you do not wish to obtain a receipt, please include the tax collector copy of the bill with your payment.

During face period, beginning April 12, residents may pay their taxes from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays at the Dupont Municipal Building. Last day to pay taxes at the face amount is Monday, June 11.

AMVETS meeting

AMVETS will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Polish Club. The auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m.

School visit

Award winning author/photographer Kathy Miller will again visit Wyoming Area Catholic School on Wednesday, April 18. She will introduce her new book in the Chippy Chipmunk series. VFW meetings

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the post home. Many items of importance will be discussed and reports will be given. Commander Mark Roney will preside. The Home Association meeting will follow.

Refreshments will be served after both meetings.
