February is full of exciting events in town, including the Dupont Progress Committee’s Mardi Gras celebration Friday, Feb. 9, at the Dupont Volunteer Fire Hall from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Dupont Municipal Office during regular business hours. The buffet menu includes pork chops, sausage and peppers and chicken with a cash bar. Music entertainment will be provided by D.J. Nunsie.
Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 4, Holy Mother of Sorrows will hold its annual wing sale from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the parish hall. Wing choices include: plain, mild, hot, garlic, Parmesan, honey mustard and Cajun. Prices are $10 for a single order of 12; $27 for 36 pieces and $50 for 75 pieces. Blue cheese and celery are included with each order.

VFW Valentine’s dance
Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual Valentine’s Day dinner dance Saturday, Feb. 10, from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. A dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. Music will be provided by “Millennium” from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening.

Hose company breakfast
In March, Dupont Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 will sponsor its 53rd annual all-you-can-eat breakfast at the company home on Main Street. The breakfast will feature the hose company’s famous homemade sausage with scrambled eggs and of course, pancakes. The breakfast will be held Sunday, March 4, with servings from 7 a.m. to noon.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Tickets are available from any hose company volunteer and will also be available at the door on the day of the event.
Sacred Heart flea market, pierogi project
Mark your calendars: Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will hold a flea market in the church hall Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6.
If you have items in good condition here are a few of the items the church will accept starting in April: household items, kitchen items, toys, holiday decorations, books, jewelry and furniture. They will not accept any electronics or clothing. All money raised will benefit the parish building fund.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is looking for volunteers to help with its Lenten pierogi project Friday, Feb. 9, through Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the parish hall. As always, much help is needed.
The 2018 refuse bills have been mailed in envelopes this year. Due date is Jan. 31.
Bills paid Feb. 1 to Feb. 28 will have a 10 percent late fee added and from March 1 to March 31 there will be another 10 percent late fee. Anyone not paying by April 1 will have their account forwarded to the magistrate for collection.
Municipal office hours during January are extended on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the office if these times are inconvenient.
Dupont residents are reminded the snow ordinance will be enforced this year. After a snowfall, no parking will be allowed on the even side of the street. On the second day after a snowfall, no parking will be allowed on the odd side of the street.
Also, snow cannot be thrown onto streets or within intersections.
Sidewalks must be cleaned within 48 hours after snowfall.
Collection container weight
Residents are reminded there is a weight limit on refuse bags and ash containers. Contact the municipal office for information.
Lions food distribution
Dupont Lions Club’s monthly food distribution will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Holy Mother of Sorrows. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.
Dupont Borough’s council meeting has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the municipal building.
U.S. Congressman Matt Cartwright will travel to Dupont Borough on Thursday, Jan. 25, for an informal visit with residents. The public is invited to meet with the congressmen from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the James Cocco Council Chambers at the Dupont Municipal Building to discuss topics of interest and concern to them.
