Dupont Lions Club donates to Dupont Volunteer Fire Company Dupont Lions Club recently donated a much needed portable scene light with an extendable pole to the Dupont Volunteer Fire Company. The compact light can go almost anywhere from wide open places to tight confined spaces. It will help with the department’s search and rescue and fire crime scene investigations. John Vargo, commander of the Sons of AMVETS will conduct “Wreaths Across America” services at the Dupont Borough Memorial Park adjacent the municipal offices at noon Saturday, Dec. 16.

Each December, on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember, Honor and Teach is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 1,200 additional locations in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad.

Refreshments will follow the ceremony in the lower level of the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Main Street. All are welcome.

Veterans holiday party

Greater Pittston AMVETS Post 189 and Ladies Auxiliary are working together to bring holiday joy to veterans who reside at Gino Merli Veterans Center, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Old Forge Manor. Veterans will be guests of honor at the Greater Pittston AMVETS Post 189 annual Christmas party at the Dupont Volunteer Hose Company on Thursday, Dec. 14.

For a $50 donation, you can sponsor a veteran to enjoy a night of good food, music, dancing and camaraderie. For many veterans, this will be the only time they will be out for the holiday season.

Donation applications are available at the municipal office during business hours or you can contact any member of the AMVETS or auxiliary. Donation application are due by Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Pearl Harbor ceremony

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 and Greater Pittston AMVETS Post 189 will conduct Pearl Harbor Day ceremonies at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Dupont VFW Post on Main Street, outside by the mural. In case of inclement weather, ceremonies will be held inside the VFW. The public is invited to attend this special ceremony. Food and refreshments will be served after the ceremonies at the VFW.

VFW Christmas dinner

Dupont VFW Post 4909 Home Association will hold its annual Christmas dinner dance Saturday, Dec. 9, at the post home. There will be musical entertainment by Millenium with dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. The bar will be open from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Donations is $30 per person. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. For tickets and reservations, contact Bob Lopata at the post home or call 570-654-9104. Deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, Dec. 8.

Holy Mother of Sorrows Christmas programs

Holy Mother of Sorrows Church will present an evening of Polish Christmas carols at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10. All are invited.

St. Nicholas Brunch will be held for all Holy Mother of Sorrows parishioners Sunday, Dec. 3, in the Frank Bednash Memorial Hall immediately after the 9 a.m. Mass. All parishioners are encouraged to attend.

 

Children’s Christmas party

Registration for the annual children’s Christmas party sponsored by Dupont Borough and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 is now open and can be made by calling the borough office during regular business hours at 570-655-6216.

The party will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the VFW Post. It is open to children, newborn to 10 years. Santa and friends will stop by to visit.

Sacred Heart cookie walk

The first annual cookie walk sponsored by the Welcome Committee of Sacred Heart Parish will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, in the parish hall.

Homemade cookies, fudge and candies will be offered for $7 per pound. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be served during the sale.

Sacred Heart Holy Name Society party

The Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Church will hold a St. Nicholas Party at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the church hall. All Holy Name Society members are invited to attend.

Lions food distribution

The monthly food distribution sponsored by the Dupont Lions Club will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Hall on Lackawanna Avenue. All qualifying residents of Dupont and Suscon are eligible.

Get Gas

UGI has started to place gas lines in Dupont. If you have not applied for natural gas you still can apply by going to the UGI website to “Get Gas” or you can contact Mike Trusa, UGI sales representative, at 570-829-8664.

A map of the project locations can be viewed at the municipal building during regular business hours. Arrangements are underway for a representative from

UGI to be available at the municipal office in the near future to answer questions and address concerns from residents.

Ash collections

Dupont Public Works Department has begun pickup of ashes. Collection will be held Tuesdays.

Progress Committee meeting

Dupont Progress Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Dupont Municipal Building.

Crime Watch news

There will be no meeting of the Dupont Crime Watch in December. Next meeting will be Jan. 23.
