St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church has a host of events starting this weekend that the whole community can enjoy.
First up, is the parish’s annual observation of the Presentation of Our Lord and the Feast of St. Blaise during the 9:30 a.m. Holy Mass on Sunday, Feb. 4, at the church, 200 Stephenson St. Mass will begin with the blessing of the candles used in church for Mass and votive lights. The public is encouraged to bring candles they use for prayer and on their dining room tables. Blessing of throats will take place at the end of Mass.
The following weekend, St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church will host a pre-Lenten breakfast from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the church, 200 Stephenson St. The menu includes eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, roll with butter, juice and a beverage. Takeouts will be available, too.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years old and younger. There will be limited tickets at the door. For advance tickets, please call 570-457-2291.
Polish Falcons news

Sewer late fees
Duryea Borough Sewer Authority will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Duryea Municipal Building, 315 Main St. Please note, late fees have been applied to any invoice not paid as of Jan. 31.
My Little Library
Formerly held in the Duryea Municipal Building, Duryea’s My Little Library will debut its monthly story hour at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at its new location, the Phoenix Performing Arts Center, 411 Main St.
The February “celebrity” readers will be the students of the center. Come and meet the local performers as they read and entertain the little story hour guests. The story hour is open to all children who have up to an 8th-grade reading level.
My Little Library is in front of the municipal building and the Community Park, Stephenson Street. It is a “take a book, give a book” program for children.
Duryea Sons of the American Legion Squadron 585 will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Brennan Regan Post home, 329 Main St. All members are urged to attend.
VFW pitch league
Duryea Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1227 will host its winter pitch league beginning Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the post, 492 Stephenson St. The league, which will play weekly at 7:15 p.m. every Tuesday until May 1, will be capped off with a playoff party.
Anyone who is interested should attend the meeting at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the post. Rules, fees, schedules and teams will be discussed at this time.
Germania Hose Company will have its annual all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 18, at the hose company, 430 Foote Ave. The menu includes sausage, ham, home fries, eggs, pancakes, rolls, coffee and juice.
Tickets, which are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger, can be purchased at the door or from any member.
Little League registration
Online registration for the 2018 spring Duryea Little League season is currently available at the league website, http://tshq.bluesombrero.com/Default.aspx?tabid=1389224. The final online registration date is Monday, Feb. 19.
As of Jan. 1, the USA Baseball Bat Standard is in effect. For more information and a complete list of approved bats, visit usabat.com.
Softball registration for the spring Little League season is available at www.pallsoftball.com. All girls ages 7-14 within the boundaries of the Pittston Area School District are eligible to play. The divisions are minors, majors and juniors. A senior division for girls ages 14-16 is tentative. The number of teams depends on the number of players registered.
The cost is $100 per child with a $150 maximum per family. This fee also includes one ticket per family to a future Pittston Twp. purse bingo fundraiser.

Duryea Crime Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the municipal building, 315 Main St. The public is encouraged to attend.
SAL pasta dinner
Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 585, will host a pasta and meatball dinner from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Brennan Regan Post home, 329 Main St. The cost is $8 and includes pasta, meatballs, homemade sauce by chef KC Przywara, salad, bread and butter. Takeouts are available. Delivery is available in Duryea. To purchase advance tickets, please stop by the post home.
Duryea at Dusk
Save the date! Duryea at Dusk will hold its second annual 5K run, 1-mile walk and family festival Saturday, June 2, at the Duryea Community Park, located behind the municipal building, 315 Main St. The festival begins at 5 p.m. followed by the race and walk at 7. SMART Recovery’s Bi-Weekly Support Group meets from 5:45 to 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of the month at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Hall, (formerly Sacred Heart Hall), 529 Stephenson St. Duryea.
SMART Recovery’s 4-Point Program helps people recover from all types of substance use disorders or any unwanted behaviors. These include alcohol/drugs, prescription drugs, nicotine, co-dependency, compulsive overeating or any behavior change.
