Furthermore, the tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full in the amount of $1,432. Office hours are daily from 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Call the sewer authority at 570-655-8747 for an appointment.
The Pittston Twp. Police are warning the public about phone scams involving persons posing as the Internal Revenue Service, PPL Electric, or family members in distress. The callers are demanding money and saying it must be paid through a pre-paid debit card, an iTunes Apple card or through a wire transfer.
If the victim refuses to cooperate, the scammers threaten the victims with arrest or loss of electrical service. In many cases the caller becomes hostile and insulting.
The callers may know a lot about their targets and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS, PPL Electric or a law enforcement agency is calling. Callers use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers.
Residents should be suspicious of unsolicited telephone calls. The best protection is to just hang up the phone when called by someone requesting personal or financial details. Talk to a family member or call your local police department before giving up money or personal information. In all of these scams, it is very difficult to recoup lost funds.
In addition to calling your local police, IRS scams can be reported to the Treasury Inspector General at 1-800-366-4484.
