Pittston Twp.’s 2018 refuse permit and garbage bag sale will begin Wednesday, May 2, and will continue until Friday, May 4, at the Pittston Twp. Municipal Building. Permit and bags will be good for the fiscal year June 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019.

The township office will be open for permit and bag purchases from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, and Thursday, May 3, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 4.

Residents are reminded the maximum number of bags a household may receive during the fiscal year is 208 bags, a maximum of four bags per week.

Garbage pickup days will continue to be Friday of each week for all of Pittston Twp.  Recycling days will continue to be Friday of alternating weeks.

Easter concert

St. John the Evangelist Church on William Street in Pittston is hosting an Easter concert. Scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, the concert will feature the combined choirs of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph Marello Parish, along with other instrumentalists.

This concert is in observance of the Diocese of Scranton’s 150th anniversary and the theme will be “The Journey Makes Us One.”

Jenkins Twp. Lions Club broom sale

The Jenkins Twp. Lions Club is selling long-handle corn brooms for $10 each. The corn brooms can be picked up at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building at 46½ Main St., Inkerman, Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

Pittston Twp. Little League designer purse bingo

Pittston Twp. Little League and Softball League will host a designer purse bingo Sunday, April 29, at the Swoyersville Hose Company, 299 Slocum St. Games begin at 1 p.m. and doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Tickets cost $25 in advance, and $30 at the door, and include admission for one to the event and 20 rounds of regular bingo. There also will be special bingo games, raffle baskets, and a 50/50 drawing. Refreshments and food will be available for purchase.

Blue & White bus trip

Jenkins Twp. Little League is sponsoring a bus trip to Penn State’s annual Blue & White football game. The game is schedule for 3 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Beaver Stadium at Penn State University. The Jenkins Twp. Little League is selling tickets on a first come, first serve basis. The cost per ticket is $40 and the bus will depart from the Jenkins Twp. Little League field, 2 May St., at 9 a.m. promptly. Call Jason Eike at 570-212-2347 to see if seats are still available.

Pittston Twp. sewer bills

Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority reminds residents the sewer authority bills can now be paid by calling 877-830-0596.

Residents also are reminded they must obtain a sewer permit before starting to excavate for connection to the new sewer main. Furthermore, the tap-in and connection fee must be paid in full in the amount of $1,432.

Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon. Monday through Friday. If this is an inconvenience, please call the sewer authority at 570-655-8747 for an appointment.

Crime Watch run/walk

Jenkins Twp. and Yatesville Borough Crime Watch groups are hosting their inaugural 4-mile run. Scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, the race will begin and end at the Pittston Area High School, 5 Stout St., Yatesville. There also is a 1-mile walk option at the high school.

Pre-registration fee is $15 until April 11. After this date, the registration fee is $20. The registration fee is non-refundable. A short sleeve T-shirt will be included for the first 50 registrants. Race day registration is $25 and will be accepted before the race, from 8 to 8:45 a.m.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 11.

Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners, as well as to the top three males and the top three females in the following divisions: 9 and younger, 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus.

Checks can be made payable to Jenkins Twp./Yatesville Borough Crime Watch. Proceeds from the race will be used to help rebuild the honor roll memorial on East Saylor Avenue, Jenkins Twp.

Church meetings

Pastor Stanley Oschman’s Plaid Community Church usually meets Thursdays at Original Italian Pizza near Heather Highlands from 6 to 8 p.m. for dinner and Bible study. The church has 16 core members and 40-45 members who reach out, volunteer and do what they call “Church on the Road,” with visits to homes and arenas to play music.

The church has a fundraiser scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Heather Highlands community room, dedicated to the group Pathway, a group for women in crisis. All proceeds from the dinner and show go to those women in need. Tickets are $25.

Inkerman Presbyterian Church flea market

Inkerman Presbyterian Church will hold a flea market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, at the church, Main Street, Inkerman, Jenkins Twp.

The sale will include household items, tables, holiday items and clothing. A 25-cent clothing sale will be featured Saturday.

Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch

The next Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch meeting is at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman. All members are encouraged to attend and new members are welcome. For information, contact Chairman Joe Sperrazza at 570-654-3315.

Taxes

County and municipal tax bills were issued Feb. 12.

During the face period, which began April 12, Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock will be collecting taxes at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman, from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday.

Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte will have office hours from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays at her home office, 12 E. Oak St., Pittston Twp.

The monthly meeting of the Pittston Twp. Board of Supervisors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at the municipal building, 421 Broad St.

Jenkins refuse reminder

The 2018 Jenkins Twp. refuse bills are now past due and a $10 late fee has been added. If payment is not made by May 31, all delinquent accounts will be sent a citation.

Jenkins Twp. meetings

The Jenkins Twp. Board of Supervisors will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Monthly planning commission meetings are held the third Thursday of every month. Therefore, the planning commission’s next meeting is Thursday, May 24. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the municipal building.

Jenkins seniors

Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization usually schedules its meetings for the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions. The organization’s next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St.
