Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday with your loved ones.

As you know, it is time to make the infamous New Year’s resolution. This year, personally, I would like to make a resolution for this column. I would like to write more feature stories about the amazing people in Jenkins and Pittston townships.

Therefore, if you have any story or an announcement you believe others within your municipality should know about, please send it to my contact information at the bottom of this column and I will gladly write about it.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year.

Offices closed

The municipal offices of both Jenkins and Pittston townships, will be closed Monday, Jan. 1, due to the holiday.

PA baseball/softball

purse bingo

Pittston Area’s baseball and softball teams are raising money by hosting a designer purse bingo. The event is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 28, at Eagle McLure Hose Company, 375 Milwaukee Ave. Old Forge. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and bingo games being at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $25 each and are available at Joyce Insurance, 9 N. Main St. Pittston. You may also call Kristy Rosiak at 570-479-0031.

There also will be special games, a basket raffle, a bake sale, food and refreshments.

Greater Pittston

Ambulance Drive

Greater Pittston Regional Ambulance announces its 2018 membership drive. Letters should be in the mail the first week of January. The ambulance association wishes to thank all for the support during previous drives.

Pittston Twp. Crime Watch

The Pittston Twp. Crime Watch Group will no longer be hosting meetings on a monthly basis.

However, the Pittston Township Crime Watch Facebook Page has 345 people following it. As a result, Frank Sciabacucchi is going to try and expand on the group’s social media efforts. He also spoke with Crime Watch officials from neighboring towns and is trying to form a Crime Watch Alliance.

Therefore, from time to time, a Pittston Twp. Crime Watch meeting may be held at any time, just no longer on a monthly basis. The frequency of the meetings is still unknown. However, registration will remain open to anyone who wishes to join.

Pittston Twp. meetings

The monthly meeting of the Pittston Twp. Supervisors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at the municipal building, 421 Broad St.

Pittston Twp.’s reorganization meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, in the municipal building, 421 Broad St., Pittston Twp. All residents of the area are invited.

Pittston Twp. snow

removal advisory

Pittston Twp. wishes to remind its residents the placement of any portable basketball hoops, sports goals or stands on any township-owned roadway is prohibited between Nov. 1 and March 31.

Township road maintenance trucks have be damaged during snow plowing operations due to collisions with these objects.

If you have any of these objects on a township road, please remove it as soon as possible.

Pittston Twp. Sewer hook up

Pittston Twp. Sewer Authority recently sent letters to the residents of Suscon about the Suscon Sewer Project and the installation of the new sewer line. Residents can now begin hooking up to the main line once they obtain a permit.

Residents can get a permit at the municipal building, 421 Broad St., Pittston Twp. Office hours are 11 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays or you can call 570-655-8747 to schedule an appointment.

All permit applications must be in by Dec. 31, 2017. Billing will commence Jan. 1, 2018.

School taxes

The 2017 Pittston Area school tax bills are now at penalty value. The county and municipal taxes are now at penalty value until Dec. 31.

The Jenkins Twp. tax office will only be open from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. The tax office is now at the Jenkins Twp. Municipal Building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

If these hours are an inconvenience, appointments can be made by calling Jenkins Twp. Tax Collector Jean Mudlock at 570-654-9710.

Pittston Twp. Tax Collector Rita Timonte can be contacted at her home office, 12 E. Oak St., or 570-654-8807. Office hours are scheduled for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays.

Payments can be sent anytime in the mail. Postmark will be accepted as the payment date. If a receipt is required, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with payment to the tax office.

If you are a new property owner and have not received your bill or if you received a bill in error, please contact the tax collector.

Jenkins Crime Watch

The Jenkins Twp. Crime Watch is returning this month with a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the municipal building, 46½ Main St., Inkerman.

Jenkins refuse and recycling

Jenkins Twp. refuse and recycling pickup will be on Wednesday, Jan. 3, for the New Year’s holiday.

Letters to inform Jenkins Twp. residents about the 2018 refuse/recycling are being mailed. The 2018 stickers went on sale Dec. 4. More information about the stickers and the collections is detailed in the letter.

Jenkins tree pickup

Jenkins Twp. will start Christmas tree pickup Thursday, Jan. 4.

Jenkins meetings

The Jenkins Twp. Board of Supervisors will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the municipal building.

The reorganization meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the municipal building.

Jenkins seniors

Meetings of the Jenkins Twp. Senior Citizens Organization are held the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions. The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Jenkins Twp. Hose Company, 2 Second St. All seniors in the area are invited to attend.

New members are always welcome.
