Pittston Area School District recently joined with the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank Children’s Produce Market. Each month, the district conducts a children’s produce market at the middle school, offering free, fresh produce, as well as packaged foods. This program is available for all families with a child attending the Pittston Area School District, regardless of income.

The first program, held in October, was conducted by the student service clubs in the district, directed by student council, under the guidance of Jill Oliver, club moderator. More than 200 families were provided with an assortment of fresh produce, including corn, broccoli, kale, apples and cauliflower, plus packaged vegetables, fresh milk, cereal and assorted snacks.

The Pittston Area Leo Club hosted the November children’s produce market, where these photos were taken.

The free produce is offered monthly at the Pittston Area Middle School, 120 New. St., Pittston. Pre-registration is required and forms are available at the school offices. Only one registration form is required per family but participants must register each month. Food items must be picked up the day of the food distribution.

The National Honor Society, under the direction of Heather Koss, moderator, will volunteer at the December produce market, which will be held from 3:45 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19.
