Sacred Heart Parish’s Women’s Society will hold its annual wafer dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Arturo’s Restaurant, Main Street, Dupont. This year’s dinner will consist of a buffet style menu. All members are invited to attend.

The cost is $10 for each member and $15 for a guest, payable with reservation. Reservations may be made by contacting Diane at 570-654-6639 or Carolyn at 570-299-5676. Please make your reservations early. Payment to the Women’s Society may be deposited in the collection basket in an envelope marked “Women’s Society Wafer Dinner” or can be mailed to the parish office.

VFW New Year’s Eve party

A New Year’s Eve party sponsored by the Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will be held at the post home Sunday, Dec. 31, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dinner buffet will be served from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. with open bar from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Music by Millennium will from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Late night snack platters, donuts, coffee, hats, noise makers and leis will be provided.

Tickets are $40 per person. Reservations may be made by seeing Bob Lopata at the VFW or calling Bob at 570-654-9104.

VFW meeting

Dupont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4909 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the post home. Commander Mark Roney will preside.

Many items of importance will be discussed and committee reports will be given.

The Home Association meeting will follow.

Food and refreshments will be served after both meetings.

 Council meetings

Council’s reorganization meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. All appointments will be made at this time.

The regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Future council meetings will be held at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise advertised.

Refuse bills

The 2018 refuse bills have been mailed in envelopes this year. Due date is Jan. 31. Bills paid Feb. 1-28 will have a 10 percent late fee added and from March 1-31 there will be another 10 percent late fee. Anyone not paying by April 1 will have their account forwarded to the magistrate for collection.

Municipal office hours during January are extended on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling the office if these times are inconvenient.

Snow ordinance

Dupont residents are reminded the snow ordinance will be enforced this year. After a snowfall, no parking will be allowed on the even side of the street. On the second day after a snowfall, no parking will be allowed on the odd side of the street.

Also, snow cannot be thrown onto streets or within intersections. Sidewalks must be cleaned within 48 hours after snowfall.

Collection container weight

Residents are reminded there is a weight limit on refuse bags and ash containers. Contact the municipal office for information.

Tree collection

Christmas trees will be picked up Fridays.

Blessing of homes

Sacred Heart of Jesus Church offers blessings of homes, which is a Polish custom known as koleda. This pastoral visit will take place during January.

Sacred Heart pierogi sale

Mark you calendars! Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will hold its annual Lenten pierogi sale. The Women’s Society will be taking orders Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14, after all weekend Masses.
