Senior farmers

market vouchers

expire Nov. 30

Area Agency on Aging of Luzerne/Wyoming Counties reminds participants of the 2017 Senior Farmers Market Voucher Program to redeem vouchers by Nov. 30.

These vouchers can only be used to purchase locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers market stands that are participants of the Department of Agriculture’s voucher program. Baked goods, meat, jam, honey, apple cider or eggs are not eligible for purchase with these vouchers.

St. Joseph’s Senior

Social Club will meet

St. Joseph’s Senior Social Club will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Center on William Street, Pittston. This month will be a Thanksgiving theme and there will be a turkey trot.

Also at this meeting, plans will be discussed for the annual Christmas party at Fox Hill Country Club at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. The dinner will be a buffet.

All members are urged to be present at the meeting and be prepared to make payment with Christmas party reservations.

Members are reminded to bring in items for the food pantry at St. John the Evangelist Church.

Servers for the month are Dorothy Crispino, Netta Deeb, Barbara Galli and Arlene Gavin. New members are always welcome. Residency in Pittston is not required to be a member. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Refreshments are served and bingo and card games are played.

Falls Active Adult

Center lists activities

Falls Active Adult Center, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming Counties, offers the following special activities this week:

Tuesday, Nov. 14: Center will close at 11 a.m. for meeting. There will be a bag lunch available to those interested.

Wednesday, Nov. 15: Veterans Day special musical presentation at 12:45 p.m. by Col. James May, retired, U.S. Marine Corp. Col. May was the head chaplain at Arlington Cemetery in Virginia. The Falls native also did a stint as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp Band in Washington, D.C.

Thursday, Nov. 16: A nurse from The Meadows will be at the center from 12:25 to 12:50 p.m. to check blood pressure. Melissa Margotti from The Meadows will call bingo after the presentation.

Friday, Nov. 17: Mobile Food Bank is available to all age groups. Volunteers are needed at 9 a.m. to help package food for the pantry. Contact Twila to sign up.

Anyone wishing to visit the center for a hot meal at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those 60 and older should RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before. The center, located on Route 92, Exeter Twp., is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
