Jessica Hopkins, of West Pittston, daughter of Judey (Pambianco) and Francis Hopkins and sister to Ray Hopkins, has qualified to participate in this year’s All State Band.
Hopkins has played flute at Wyoming Area since fifth grade. She added piccolo during high school marching band and cymbals in indoor percussion.
She has participated in many Pennsylvania Music Educators Association festivals since middle school, including district band, district orchestra, regional band and this month will go to the state event in Erie.
Hopkins is one of the original members of the Northeast Youth Wind Ensemble at Marywood and participates in the Northeast Philharmonic Mentoring Program. This year, she also participated in Luzerne County Band, where she was honored with a scholarship. She has also participated in Wyoming Seminary’s Performing Arts Institute since 2012.
This year, she was chosen as one of WVIA’s Artist’s of the Week and recently was named one of the top 10 finalists for Artist of the Year. The winner will be announced in April.
Hopkins has been instructed by her director, Shea Riley, at Wyoming Area and her private instructor, Nancy Sanderson, of Wilkes-Barre.
She has been accepted to Penn State University, Main Campus, where she will study music education. She will audition for Penn State’s Blue Band in August.
Wyoming Area High School’s Ben Klaproth, son of Michelle and Dan Klaproth of West Pittston, also has qualified to participate in All-State Band, playing trumpet.
