Misericordia University communications student Zoe LaPorte, of West Pittston, has been selected for the 10th annual Online Reporter Project Internship, a multimedia internship sponsored by the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association (PNA) in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Society of Editors. The internship takes take place during the PNA’s Pennsylvania Press Conference, a statewide gathering of news editors, reporters and broadcasters, on June 1-2 in Gettysburg. Among her duties, LaPorte will work one-on-one with industry professionals to produce a live website, conduct interviews, report on industry issues and cover conference presentations and awards programs. She also will network with editors from across the state while covering the conference and the presentation of the Professional Keystone Press Awards. LaPorte was selected from collegiate applicants across Pennsylvania. A junior with a double major in mass communications and design and English, she is scheduled to graduate in December 2019. For the past three years, LaPorte has served as the web editor for The Highlander, the university’s student newspaper. She also is a technician on the university’s Student Help Desk, providing computer and Internet technology support for the campus community. In addition, LaPorte is a member of the Misericordia Players student theatrical troupe and volunteers at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston. She is the daughter of Judith LaPorte.
